Hey everyone,

I have a 92 4.0L v6 ranger. 2wd. I love my truck, but hate how it sounds. My buddies describe it as a sounding like a louder prius, and unfortunately they are kind of right. So, im looking to buy a cat-back system. Any suggestions on which one. I've been looking at the dynomax systems mainly because they are cheap, but would love to hear some opinions.

Thanks.

Everyone here has their own preference for what they think sounds good. I think my 4.0 sounds badass as just the precat and 2-3/4" side exit. Honestly for cost effectiveness, go out and buy a 2 ft. glasspack and a couple exhaust clamps. If you don't like it, try a turbo muffler or something along the lines.

I like mine . . .

which is a Gibson cat-back with single exit; nice deep sound without being raucous.

The main thing is, what sounds good to you, since you're the one who'll hear it most. ap3x may be right . . . buy an inexpensive glasspack and install it to see if you like it, and go from there. What I have found is, the diameter of the pipe will enhance the sound, as well as the kind of muffler. Just a muffler with the stock pipe may not sound like you want it to. 'Lots of variables in what makes an exhaust system sound good. Best of luck!

I have a Gibson on my Sport Trac, it makes a V6 sound as good as it will.

On a stock 4.0 or 3.0 a glasspack, or strait pipe sounds like shit. But on a modded 4.0 or 3.0 cam, ported etc they can I mean can as in you are really lucky sound great. It all depends on the exhaust setup. I have ported heads, ported upper, and lower intake, and a mild cam, with some other mods. Because I am running the stock cats, it is not very loud at all. It can get a little buzzy at high Rpm. So in the end on a stock 4.0 or 3.0 hell no on a correctly modded yes. My advise to you is flowmaster even though I tend not to care for there mufflers they do sound great. Just they burn me out that is all you see 350, and flowmasters=(
