Just recently acquired and older ranger. 101k, 2.3 4cyl manual. Changing rear seal this weekend, any tips?

Welcome to the site. Might as well replace the clutch/TO bearing/disc/pilot bushing while your there.

2.3l Lima engine uses a timing belt, replacement time is 80-100k miles, so could be do if it hasn't been done already
You have an M5OD-R1 manual transmission

1989-1997 2.3l used dual spark plugs to add power, both spark plugs fire at the same time, there is no alternating, popular MYTH
2.3l Lima engine was used in Rangers from 1983 to 1997, 1983 to 1988 with 4 spark plugs and distributor.

2002-2011 Rangers used a 2.3l Duratec engine, no relation to your 2.3l Lima engine, so just a "heads up" if you Google "2.3l Ranger" you WILL get conflicting information as there were two different 2.3l engines used in Rangers
And the New 2019 Ranger model uses a 2.3l Turbo-charged engine, so 3 different 2.3l engines associated to Ranger model
