Here's the brief story behind this truck:
Bought it as my first "car" back in 95 with about 40k on it. Drove it until about 120K when a persistant leak finally got the better of the pans and driver's side seat track (you could lift the seat on that side, the track rusted off the pans). Parked it. It sat for a bit while we worked on our house, then another project "barged" in and it seemed like I'd never get the time or money to fix it back up. Sold it last spring CHEAP to a kid who promised he was fixing it as a summer ride (we know his dad, who is the president of a large local car club, he wasn't a random person). Well, he was a moron that has no business touching a vehicle. He also found out the 2wd isn't 4wd and decided to sell it for a 4wd. We bought it back late last year. He put in pans, but built his own cab mounts, tried to use Bronco II seats/tracks, hacked the wiring, drilled holes in the bumper (right next to the stock ones) to mount off road lights....the list goes on. Now we are going to rebuilt it the right way, finally. We got a "new" bed (old one was shot-the "fastback and roll-n-lock held salt/moisture I guess), new bumpers, grill, headlight trim and some other parts. We're working on deciding the finer details, like which lowering kit and how to redo the interior to match the new paint job (deep green to the body line, back on down).
This is the truck a few years ago:
And a recent pic before the old bed came off, but since we got clear and the new grille/headlight trim:
Future plans call for taking the complete interior out, fixing the leaking problem (either windshield or cowl), cleaning up and painting the frame (possibly POR15 or spray on bedliner), getting some rust damage on the cab repaired, and fixing some bad cross members on the frame. Also, new cab mounts (the right ones!), fixing a few minor dings on the new bed and cab, paint, some sort of chrome rims (partial to the Bullitts), a black interior (currently blue), possibly with dark green accents. Looking into SN95 seats. I'd also like to fix the window in the back of the "fastback" so it's functional again. Lund doesn't have the correct clips anymore, we had to use some that made it non-functional. It used to "flip" open on the bottom a few inches-it made for great air movement in the cab. I'd like to lower it to this height: http://www.therangerstation.com/galleries/StreetRangers/SWard.html in the end it will be a summer ride-mostly cruising, maybe going to work sometimes if we're trying to hit a cruise right after, trips-it's earned a break from full time DD and we have an AWD for the winter anyway.
