About a year and a half ago I had my fuel replaced on my 91 ranger super cab. I immediately noticed that the guage would mark correctly only above 1/4 tank and would stay stuck at 1/4 once the fuel level dropped bow 1/4. I brought it to the mechanic's attention but let it slide because it was a minor inconvenience. I had it replaced again last week and remimded the mechanic of the issue. He said the float was probanly hitting something in the tank and assured me that the new one was working properly when the float was moved by hand so we know the sending unit and guage are ok. My first top off shows that the needle is stuck between 1/4 and 3/4 and im gonna have to take it back. Is there any special area to watch or any specific installation procedures that need to be followed. I used a fuel pimp from oreily's. Anyone have any suggestions or have a similar experience?

Fuel guage

there is a difference in the sending unit assembly length between tanks of super cab and reg cab long box trucks. :annoyed: I found this out when i had to replace my fuel pump and sending unit. I just cut a hole in the box to get to it :thefinger: I thought I would just be able to pull a sending unit and pump from another ranger tank. but it didn't work out exactly because the one that i pulled from another tank was too long. And the one I bought from the parts store was a bit short. After cussing them out over it :annoyed::temper::pissedoff: I put it in and when my truck reads an 1/8th of a tank and i step on the brakes hard it will stall out because it's not reaching down enough and fuel is splashing away from the pump. :annoyed: so the best thing for ya is to go to a JY and pull a sending unit and pump from another supercab. It will take a day to get the tank down and the sending unit out in the JY assuming that you know a JY that has a Super cab ranger. Good luck
