If i box in my 1991 ranger frame how big of motor could it handle. Im lookin to handle 650+ ft of torque turbo diesel motor ? any suggestions ?

That's a pretty tall request from a frame that if I hoist it up in the air and stand on it I can watch it flex. The frames on these trucks are thin as newspaper. The frame must get a lot of it's stiffness when the cab and bed are on it.

The frame is similar in thickness to a fj80, just sayin. Its the crossmembers and boxing the frame that reinforce it.

To the op, I have no idea but look forward to seeing a build thread soon. I've seen people put Ranger bodies on F150 or full size bronco/blazer frames. It would be a bastard child but would achieve the result you are looking for without the extra hassle. I acknowledge hateraid will come from this suggestion, however I stand by it.

i agree with kryptoniteb, if your going to introduce that big of an engine, it would be better and simpler to use a bigger frame verse reinforcement. you are already going to have extreme hours boxing and bracing the frame to begin with, and will end up stripping all your lines and wires and probably take the whole if not most the body off to do it.
So why not use a older f150 or fullsize bronco frame and build new body mounts. your going to have to re run all yor lines and wires. PLUS this gives you a larger (wider) inside frame distance so you can easily clear the engine, exhaust, transmission ect. :icon_thumby:

the original want to go with the bronco frame i know it can handle it. i have the tools and a over head crane to box the ranger frame. i was interested in how much power the frame could handle boxed up. the powertrain i would like to use is 7.3 powerstroke mated up to zf5 or zf6. but i was talkin to my cousin and he said he could give a free 460 which i might take due to not a really big budget because right know im going to college too.

I'm attending college as well so I know the feeling.

I'm still gonna say swap the frame. Unless you have the knowledge to do an engineering analysis there is no true way to know how much stress it will handle.
