What about the valves and rockers??? can they be swapped? My engine has the tick and seems a little tired... theres alot of kms on it... and i found this rebuilt 4.0 out of a 91 for cheap... i just want to make this thing work.. so what are the main differences between the two motors, what components cant be swapped???
So was this ever confirmed? I need a replacement engine for my 94' 4.0 ranger and I need to know which years to look for.
i think the 94 has a cam position sensor and the 91 dosent
This is a year old post.....but I'm gonna help anyways.
Yes certain later 94's had a CPS. That is no big deal though as ALL 4.0's had the spot for them and actually just use a cover on the earlier models that bolt right over that hole.
In a sense......for any years between 90-97 they can be interchanged....the short blocks that is. SO.....just swap your sensors....like if you have a CPS and other stuff...like your CKPS, or EGR and your intake manifolds over from your original engine. If you want split years 90-94, 95-97, and 98+. The 98+ had a few changes with the head. Like the exhaust ports. Idk if an earlier manifold will bolt right on....or if you used the later exhaust manifolds, that it'd line up with your y-pipe. If you're not afraid of maybe a few exhaust mods....then a 98+ short block could probably be used too with the same deal of swap manifolds and sensors.
