I have to get a new alternator for my truck, and was wondering if there were any alternators out there that have more amperage but not over $150 dollars. It would be nice if it were a direct bolt in from another vehicle, like an explorer. Thanks in advance! :icon_cheers:

Thanks... but that doesn't help me one bit... I've already checked there. The 1986 grand marquis is NOT a direct bolt on. completely different. an otherr ideas?

would that fit? it may be a different bolt pattern...

EDIT: I looked at the bolt pattern from the f-150. It's close but ti would make me have to get a new hood ad a longer serpentine belt... so no thx.

I went out and got a 1 wire powermaster 100 amp alternator. I think I will return it because I have read that there are alot of drawbacks with the 1 wire alternators.

97 460 f250 alt is a 130amp it is about an inch longer on the mounting holes so you would have to make a bracket off the old bolt, just a piece of 1inch flat steel with 2 holes would work. youll need a slightly longer belt. and a slight mod to the wiring. i also always runa new battery cable.

We used one off of a Escort. They have a couple different Amp ones.I think we had to rotate the back half but wasn't hard.

actually, the only draw back is having to brong the rpms up to get the alternator to star charging. you have to rev to like 1700 for the alternator to kick in. unlike a stock alternator that charges as soon as you start the engine.

but the 1 wire alternators are good alternators. im not sure how they would work with a computer though.
