Hi i am new here and looking for some help..

I have a 1990 ford ranger 4x4 auto 6cyl. when driving up the highway at 80km/h it revs at 3000 rpms when i try to get it to 100 km/h it revs 4000 rpms

can anyone give a good idea where to start ?

thanks in advance

Tom

I don't know what that equates to in MPH - but from the limited description, it almost sounds like your torque converter is slipping. Can you offer some more detail? Does it do it all the time? More often under load? Etc.?

it does it steady does not matter if i have a load on the truck on empty, someone told me it might be the speed sensor ? any chance of that? an easy fix would be great

also i have no overdrive, all the other gears work fine, just revs so high before it shifts

Well there is your problem. With no overdrive, you're definitly going to be running higher RPMs. I think you have some transmission problems. Are you sure you're indicator in the dash is right, and you have it in overdrive, not 3rd?

yes the shifter is in the correct place if i go higher i am in neutral, it does go into Over drive after awhile, i found that out the other day, but does not stay there long, then shifts back out. even in first gear it revs 2000 before it shifts into second on a level road, 2nd takes a high rev before it shifts, just like the motor does not have anough power or the rear ends are geared very low
