ive got a 1990 ranger 4.0 v6, it has a manual transfer case and manual hubs, as far as i know they are original manual. so i pull it out of 4wd but it does not disengage. ive tried going backwords but no good. i have verified that the lever is actually turning the linkage. does anyone have any ideas? how does this tcase work it does no feel like it moves any gears from 2h-4h? oh and ive noticed that sometimes after driving for a few days it then disengages.

Sounds like some t case maintenance is in order. cleaning and whatknot. My humvee wouldnt disengage sometimes, I would have to shift back to 2wd drive it up to 20 MPH and hit the brakes real hard to release the stress on teh t case. Due to tires wear, size etc. Sometimes its difficult for them to let go.
