Hi I am working on my moms truck. When you turn on the truck everything is fine. When you turn on the vent (non-ac) everything is fine. WHen you turn on the AC, the AC compressor makes a clicking sound, followed by the truck turning off. I took off the belts and the pulley moves fine. The compressor is about three years old. Any suggestions?

Heater also shuts off the engine.

I just removed the wires to the compressor and the heater worked but does not work when the connector wires are attached to the compressor. Also I checked the ac/heater fuse which is fine. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a seized compressor.

Sorry. That's expensive to repair.

Can you turn the compressor hub (center part) by hand with the engine off?

No I cannot turn the compressor hub when the engine is turned off. I plan on replacing the compressor, orfice tube, accumulator and receiving/drier. The system was redone in 2004 so I am not concerned about "Black death".

Any other suggestions?
