Hey guys, I just created my account hoping that maybe somebody can give me some insight on my problem. First off the trucks a ‘90 with a 2.9 and a 5 speed, it was running great then out of nowhere last Saturday it threw a check engine light and will run but it won’t idle. It runs super rich. I tried to check for blink codes but for some reason the test will not result in anything. So far I have replaced the distributor cap, rotor, coil, wires, plugs, coolant sensor for the EEC module, IAC, TFI module, intake air temp sensor, MAP sensor, and the O2 sensor. The truck still runs the same after all of that. I’ve narrowed it down in my head to being a problem in the distributor, possibly the stator? A shorted out wire some where in the wiring harness or a bad EEC module. I’m pretty stumped. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Thanks in advance.

I forgot to add that I also put in a new fuel filter, tested fuel pressure, it’s at 34 PSI with the engine running, and there’s no gas coming out of the vacuum line on the FPR so I am assuming that it is still good.

50% of all TFI modules are garbage out of the box.

The problem has been fixed, so if there’s anyone like me that chased this problem without any luck, open up the EEC module. Mine had a blown out capacitor. Bought a new one from rockauto and the truck runs like a champ.
Thanks for that info! I'm having a similar problem. I'll have to check it out!
