anyone done this?
any threads on it? i cant seem to fine one.
trashing the A4LD and swapping to a M5OD manual. things i know i need:
-Pedal Assembly
-Clutch slave and master cylinder w reservoir (new)
-ECU from manual ranger (anyone know the id number?)
-will be using new clutch, pressure plate and possibly flywheel

also am planning to switch to a manual transfer case, what is needed and can it be done?

anything else to add to the list? heard i may need the transmission wiring harness, and also may need a drive line or at least a different slip yoke.

Will be pulling all parts out of the same truck (obvious difference is its a 5 speed) at a junk yard so i do not expect any major complications with fitment of everything.. any and all advice welcome appreciate it in advance!

your list is a good start. definitely gonna need a flywheel, weather you use the one from the donor truck or a new one is up to you. add to your list a starter, shifter and shifter boots. there's a plate that bolts to the floor under the shifters, you can grab that too. if not, you can cut an opening in the one you already have. the transmission harness isnt required to get it drivable, but it is needed for back up lights. you wont need drive shafts at all, your new m50d is the same length as your a4ld. you can bolt back on the same electric t-case or you can swap in a manual pretty easily if you can find one. you should only need the t-case and shifter linkage. your ecu will work but wont be right, the biggest difference i remember is the auto computer wont cut fuel during decel. a good replacement is the x2x2 computer from a 91-92 4.0, 5 speed explorer. supposedly they have a little more aggressive tune since they had a little more weight over the rear wheels.

here's a link to swap in an older 5 speed. not your exact situation but it should be close http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/A4LDto5Speed.html

the transmission tunnel panel from the donor vehicle will have the hole for the transmission shifter and a hole for the transfer case shifter . well your in there you might want to grab the shifter boots too . the manual T case shifter is mounted to the transmission housing . you will only need the wiring for the reverse lights . any other wiring from the automatic can be cut and removed or just tie it up out of the way if you have any thoughts of going back to an automatic in the future....

alright been told i can run a manual trans from the years 90-97, can anyone back this up? M5OD and M5OD-R1 correct?

its nice to get answers on my thread so i have something to come too when i am working on the truck instead of having to backtrack and look all over the damn forum for something i can have answered here, if youre going to be an asshole you can kindly get off of my thread thanks.

I haven't posted anything different on yours than I would have on any others. With 22 post under your belt and all you have done is ask questions that you could have found searching. Do you want us come over and install it for you too? Search and you will find everything here that you want. I won't give it to you....you have to work for it. Now get to searching the forums!

the reason i joined the site was to get advice on stuff i would like to do to my truck. im asking questions for a reason. a couple of the build threads were either on newer or older trucks than mine and id like to get info specific for my year. unless im using the search engine wrong which i dont see how that could be. other people/users have been happy to answer my questions and idk why you feel the need to come on here and be "that guy" so please.

alright, i think he gets the point. thanks, explorin. i certainly see where youre coming from, i preach the same message, but at this point if you dont have anything else to add to the discussion you can leave it be.

sam, you gotta realize that there is an enormous amount of info already on the boards, you just gotta find it. we see these types of questions over and over, we can't spoon feed everybody exactly what they need to know. try to find the info yourself but dont be discouraged against posting a question after youve searched some yourself.

yes i do realize that and i do apologize for not searching through enough threads, there is an enormous amount of info and i will in the future take more time to search.

Sam....glad you came back. I wasn't trying to run you off or be a pain in the side with the responses to your threads. As you mentioned there are pages upon pages of information here on this site based soley for RBV's. I will guarantee with you searching the forums with just some key words of what you are wanting to do you will have more than enough information to tackle what you need done. Now if you have searched and what you was searchinig for wasn't covered then by all means post away with the questions we will be happy to help and point you in the right direction. Someone here has done it....maybe, or suggestions can be given to you to get it done.
