1990 2.9 oil and temp gauges.

I want to put add on oil and temp gauges on my engine. Where is the best place on the engine to put the oil pressure gauge pickup and he temp pickup?

remove the temp sender and oil pressure sender and swap with what ever you got.

temp sender is right next to the thermostat housing to the right. (One wire)
The oil sender is below the power steering box.

Thanks, this truck has been parked for over 5 years and i want to get it back in road shape. are either the oil sender or temp senders used by the ECM or is this truck too old for that?

Hopefully my assumptions above or correct. I got the temp and oil sensors installed in those two ports today.

the first picture is the temp sender unit, i replaced the same one, the gauge started working but my truck doesn't get as warm as i thought it would.

Yep, that's them. Does have a temp sensor for the computer, but it's on the other side of the lower intake manifold.

Thanks for the info and confirmation. I need to finish putting a grommet i firewall and figure out where the oil level sensor is so i can attach the wire just hanging down by that pressure sending unit. Then i can get it started back up and see what i get on the new gauges.

Found it...

Well I went back to work on the Ranger tonight. Crawled way under and found what I believe to be the oil level sensor with the wire broken off (Pshycopete said that is where the yellow wire just hanging down by the pressure sender is SUPPOSED to go in another thread). I reached up to feel the end of the sensor, it rotates in the housing. Is that normal? Maybe that's why the wire broke off.

I also worked on the new oil pressure and water temp sensors. I have them going through a new grommet in the firewall and I have them partially zip tied down. Just wanted to make sure that I am not doing something really stupid by running them through the extra spark plug wire clip on the valve cover. I plan on adding a few more zip ties along the coil wire and on the spark plug clip and I alos am going to RTV the grommet center to seal the slits and keep the two lines from moving there.

The oil pressure line is the clear somewhat stiff nylon tube and the temp sensor is the ether filled black bendable line.

For giggles I was looking on Feebay for an oil level sensor. I found two and it looks like the center part of it should be able to rotate because there are two pins that look like you can snap something in at least that is what this picture looks like to me? Can anyone confirm this? Maybe I jet need the connector half that plugs in this hole to fix my broken wire problem???

Can anyone confirm this theory?

hey parked u can buy that oil level sensor at the ford dealer i just bought one one for my truck and its the same as yours 90 rang 2.9 they sell for 64.18 for the sens and 8.87 for the washer here r the part numbers f2az6c624b this is the sensor thewasher is e4az6c626b so it should cost u 78.00 alltogether i looked all over the net and couldent find the only one i found was from i think rock auto and they wanted over a hundred and twenty five so i took a shot at ford and they had them .

Is the sensor two pieces? Is there just a bare wire hanging out of it?

I pulled the oil level sensor today. There is a little metel wire clip that holds the electrical connector in as suspected. The wierd thing is I just reinstalled the sensor and left the connector out but no "low oil" light comes on in the dash???? Seems wierd you would think if the wire is completely ripped off that it would make the low oil warning light come on.

The good thing is I started the truck and drove it 55-60 MPH for about 10 miles!
