1990 2.9 doesn't fire.

We just brought a 1990 Ranger home with the 2.9 engine. It ran fine, but liking my engines clean {this one was dirty} I degreased and powerwashed.. well now the Ranger turns over fine, but no fire. I noticed it has the fender mounted coil and it has sweated some.. could this be the problem? I WD-40'ed it but that didn't work. I have a strong coil spark so I am now thinking cap & rotor issue.. Anybody else have this problem.
I did contact the previous owner and he informed me that the truck doesn't start after it has rained . Help!!

Now would be a good time to figure out where the problem is before it rains. put a timing light on the plug wires and see if your getting spark there also. If so disconnect the spout wire and check the timing if you have the TFI ignition. Can you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key on check the fuel pressure. Pull the fuel pump and computer relays and see if they are wet or corroded also check all the connectors for moisture clean them and use dielectric grease on them when you put them back together to protect them for moisture. Take all the grounds apart and sand them metal to metal and make sure they are tight. As your looking every time you do something try the ignition so you have an idea where the fault is for future reference. Let us know either way but especially if you find the fault.
