So my friend has a 1989 Ford Ranger XLT (push button) 4x4 with the 2.9L motor. When we were trying to move it on Saturday for a Snow Emergency we had the truck suddenly would not engage in any gear.
The story goes like this: He started the truck, engaged the 4x4 and started to play in the snow while I moved my other trucks. When he was done, he drove into the alley and parked (or put it in neutral, I am not 100% sure). When he went to move it again there was nothing. The truck would not move in any gear but it would roll fine. To me it would seem as though the transfer case was in neutral but that really isn't an option (at least I don't believe) with the push button 4x4 he has. We ended up pushing it with my F-150 out of the way as it was in the alley, but now it wont move at all under it's own power. None of the gears do anything at any RPM. Could it be a controller or linkage? I would love all your ideas!
Thanks,
Sam
