1988 SAS and Cummins 4BT

The dana 44's are out of an 86 wagoneer and the stack I built with 4" exhaust pipe, I plan to take it off and angle cut the top as soon as I get my bandsaw fixed.

I'm amazed by your truck. :icon_surprised: Congratulations! Was it very difficult to swap the gas engine with a diesel one? I've seen an article in Diesel Power about someone turned a 1997 (I think) Ford Ranger into a diesel dragster with a Cummins 4BT.

that truck looks sick . but the cummins shuold be red, not cat yellow haha.

thanks guys...much appreciated. Heres some more details, I've had this truck a long time and swapped a v8 in about 6 years ago. In the past few years I got the diesel bug and have made a lot of upgrades to my F350 so that got me thinking about the Ranger. After a lot of research I decided on the Cummins 4BT. I located one in PA out of a bread truck and got it for a good price ($1500). I picked up the M5r2/BW 1356 off CL for $100. To mate the Cummins to the Ford tranny requires a cummins adapter which I located out of TN. The axles I pulled from a salvage yard Wagoneer and completely rebuilt hub to hub and added flat top knuckles and high steer. Getting the motor to fit wasn't that bad, I did have to rebuild the heater box and notch the passenger side frame and the engine crossmember and then new steel to strenthen both. The motor mounts I made using angle iron and off the shelf Dodge truck rubber mounts. The electrical was the easiest part as it only takes a couple wires to make it run. I removed the stock gas tank and bought a NOS Bronco II tank. The brakes require a new source for vacuum so I used an electric vacuum pump, it works fine but I think I'll upgrade to Hydroboost later on. The SAS is pretty much the same as many on here have already done, and THX to those who posted theirs because I got a lot of ideas from them! The front springs are BJ's Offroad 6" lift and support the weight of the diesel great, they barely moved when I dropped the motor on them and have not sagged a bit. The rear has Ranger 6" lift springs and 4" blocks. The truck drives straight, no funny wiggles and handles like it should.

I'm now searching for a NP205 to replace the BW1356, I think a shorter TC will help with driveline angles, I also need to rotate the rear axle. Thats it for now, if anyone wants to see anything specific PM me I have pics of the whole build.

Thanks again.

That the SSSSSSSWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEETEST ranger that ive ever seen !!!!

Really nice truck. Can we see more pics? This would make a great feature vehicle and I'm sure a bunch of people would like a closer view to better see how it was done.

Sure I'd be glad to, that would be real cool........I'll send you a pm.

Wow, that is awesome!
