Hello I was wondering if anyone has experience or knowledge on the return fuel line on a 2.9 88 xlt? I went to a ford dealership to potentially buy a return fuel line for it and they were expectedly discountinued awhile back. I cant find what kind of tube specifically I need for it online.

In short I need a replacement and am lost on where to get one, sorry for the poor writing skills.

I recall there were some threads on this topic not too long ago. You can buy kits online with the proper nylon tubing and the tool to crimp on the necessary connectors. Sorry don't remember more than that, but I think a search should generate those threads.

Dorman sells a tool, nylon line and fittings. @Uncle Gump went that route.

I decided to go whole hog and did -6 AN PTFE braided line because I intend to use AN stuff for various things (like I rebuilt a rusted coolant rail on my 5.0 motor with AN fittings). Also used it for power steering and such. It’s expensive, but more universal for my purposes.

Also, from experience, if one of the factory lines goes bad, replace all of the lines. If not, you’ll be replacing what you didn’t before long. I tried to cheat and save time and money on my green Ranger and only did one line. Well, I got to go back and do the others…

I bought a dorman kit.

My 86 has 5/16 return line. Yours is likely the same.

Dorman also sells some repair kits. They typically have the fitting you will need already pressed into the line. It has a foot or so of line.... and a union to splice it into the existing line.

Dorman sells it in 10Ft rolls now for $23. That spliced into a repair kit with the right fitting on each end should be enough to do even supercab truck.

Edit: Obviously there are 2 sizes so 2 rolls and 8 repair kits...
