Ok i have a 1988 ranger my windows are both electric and are weak going up so I was wondering what and how can i test the windows? All i have is a mulitimeter so please help.I have done a little test on the passenger side window by hooking the meter up to the connector going to the motor and when i pushed the up button my meter read almost 12 volts just below 12.So that means its getting the right power right?what could i do to see how much its taking to push the window up instead of just seeing how much its getting?

You might try a bit of silicone spray on the rubbers...could be just a binding issue with the glass on the glides...I've fixed slow windows with this so try it first before tearing into anything else...:)

I've never had power windows so I have no idea what fast or slow is...but a sticky window is slow...

it doesnt have rubber on the weatherstrip around the window it had some type of rubber or something on the regulatot slider thing.

can anyone help me? i have the velvet weather strip on the sides but i put new things on the bottom of the window on the door and it started slowing down then.

Try greasing inside the metal channel where the regulator slides up & down. I found this was the cause for mine struggling to roll up on my BII.

Ok I will what did you use to grease it up?And also i bought some new weatherstrip things to go in where the window comes up and that slowed it down can i grease that somehow?

I just used a regular lithium bearing grease in the channel.

Silicone spray lubricant should work on the weatherstrips.

^^ I forgot how they look...been so long since I took mine apart to service them...

I pm'd you but didn't read this forum first...definitely remove the door panel to see what's going on in there...once you see how it works it will be totally clear...but, then again...if you have power windows it may be a bit more complicated than my Armstrong Windows...

Ok ill get some grease and grease up the channel and ill get some spray to put on the weatherstrip for my passenger side.Thats the only thing wrong with my passenger side window is its a little slow it doesnt wine or anything. But now for my drivers side window it is even slower and shakes going down and wines a good bit going up.but i see where someone has drilled holes in both doors to get the window motor out so am guessing both motors have been replaced not sure though. And also what all test can i do with a multimeter and how on the window motors?

Does anyone know how to test the window motors with a multimeter?

Ok today i rolled the window down then when i went to roll the passenger side up i had to hit the drivers side button 5 times before it went up and the truck was running.any ideas anyone?

ok i checked the voltage at both swithes and i get 13 something volts coming in to both switches while running and 12 when just the igniton is off.but when i push the button on the drivers side it drops down to about 10 volts at the lowest and the passenger side down to 9 at the lowest. So what could it be?Bad wiring to the motor from the switch,a weak motor or just the velvet weatherstrip and everything greased up?please help

Some voltage drop is normal (9-10V doesn't sound unreasonable given the fact it's struggling to move the window).

I would say weak motor if lubricating everything didn't help.

ok because i also took out the bottom weatherstrips to see if that did anything but it still went the same speed and the pasenger side is the same but on the pasenger side sometimes it wont go up or down at all until u crank the truck or push either switch a couples of times but its getting the same voltage as the drivers side am guessing that just the window motor is given out at some points and having to push the button a few times to get it up.my other question is do you just take the three bolts out the motor and take it out or does it have to come out with the regulator all in one piece together?
