1988 ranger electric fan

I have a 1988 ranger 4x4 2.9l and when i bought it someone had put a electric fan and they ran the wires to the fuse box so the fan comes on when you turn on the key either way to run or acc.So on a cold morning it never gets to operating temperature cause of the fan continusley running so i was wondering how i can hook it to the thermostat to get the fan to run only when it gets hot and also get the fan where is doesnt run when you just switch the key on.So any one know where to and how to hook it up?

I need to hook mine to the ignition so it will turn off. I just hooked it to the battery and it ran for about 10 min last night after I shut it off until it cooled down.

I think it use to have something like that on there before because i looked under the hood and near the fan is a sensor looking thing that lookes like a temperature sending unit.I was thinking about just going back to an orginal fan but would i lose and horsepower?And the only problem with the fan is that it doesnt warm up halfway on the temperature guage but it puts out heat and everything.But is overcooling the engine a bad thing?

Here ya go man. Any questions just let me know. sounds like you also have a stuck open thermostat, as a running fan wont do anything if the thermostat is work for atleast the forst 10 minutes.
