My door latch will not keep the door shut, I've adjusted the latch pin several (like 100..) different ways yet the door keeps popping open while under way. Anyone know where I can find a door latch for my 1988 Ranger ext cab?

May have one. Which parts do you need?

The part I need is the door latch that holds the door closed. I've searched the online Ford parts houses and I think the Ford part number for the driver's door (left side) is F1ZZ6121813A (Supersession(s): F1ZZ-6121813-A)

Remind me but I'm almost positive I have a spare laying around. Should be home in a few days.

PJ hasn't made a post in over a year. I doubt he'll post again soon.

Will an 84 latch work?

I have no idea. I will look up the part number for an '84 and see if it matches. Since they are both 1st generation, I would like to think they are identical but I just don't know off hand.

That part number (s) is for a full size bronco or Truck, not the Ranger. I suspect any first generation Ranger or Bronco II latch might work.

Probably any first gen latch should work. Possibly second gen as well since they were virtually identical. I don’t have any spare latches currently though. They all looked the same from what I’ve noticed. I have had latches gum up though and not latch correctly. Took a can of brake clean and a lot of working the latch to get it to grab right, then I went with a light oil for lube.

Thanks for your suggestion, Lil-Blue! I have tried cleaning with degreasing and then lubricating with a light lubricant as you suggested, months ago. The latch simply won't stay closed to hold the door shut and inadvertently opens while driving down the road. The truck is not a daily driver and the door does stay closed "most of the time" but it seems like the latch just gives up and the door pops unlatched without any warning. Not a good feeling.

I did finally find the right Ford OEM part number. There are different part numbers for trucks equipped with factory auto door locks (which my truck has). That part number is Part #: 8L5Z1021813A

I found the part on the Ford website:
88 Ranger left door latch
