1988 Bronco II Virginia Trail Build

Well little motivation, really think I'm going to like these

Well had narrowed my smoke and rough running down to #4 cylinder not igniting. Had spark, compression, all good. All new injectors, initially in the smoking diagnostics I had swapped to original injectors although one had a cracked cap so I used 1 new injector. Guess which cylinder it was on, #4..... Swapped back out today and ran for a half hour or so all ok. Smoke cleared up and no miss on #4. (BTW 4 was completely dead, pull plug wire no change initially. It was flooding that cylinder. Cleaned plugged cranked over to evacuate all unburned fuel and ran good today.

That is great news my friend.

I was sick to my stomach over this one... I'm sure you were too.

I think we spoke about these new/rebuilt injectors when you first put them in. We could all learn a lesson about those pieces of shit from your experience.

Yep. You know you spend money thinking your doing the right thing and it stabs you in the back as soon as you do it. Honestly thinking there is only 1 bad one, just so happened to be the ONE I left in. Probably swapped locations.. oil is diluted pretty good, gonna change that and put the intake and hood on then hopefully be able to street this thing a little... We shall see. The tractor retracted some of my funds but hoping to order the Duff 3" kit in the next few weeks!

You go man...

I can't recall if someone asked about an update in the future or if I had a post direct about them, do you recall Gump?

I just went looking for that conversation... I can't seem to find it.

I just remember saying that replacement injectors were a crap shoot and you might have been better off testing and rebuilding your originals. I also remember saying to not throw them away.

Well luckily I had ordered seal kits as well for original. As much of a pain in the ass as pulling/installing the fuel rail is with the intake on in the truck I likely will not reseal others until they start to leak. It is a pain to do an align. So I will wait till I lift it and put bigger tires on it so it sucks more then probably do it..... :)

Well the injectors, code and stuttering/missing issues I continue having as well as very little free time has dwindled my interest or desire to press hard on this project but thanks to a 10 year anniversary at work a nice bonus ( I was planning on, new it was coming) got paid out and its time for something fun on this project. To hell with priorities like getting it running right... :)

That will get you inspired...

Well the weekend allowed a little time to work on this. Pulled injectors resealed, cleaned, still having issues. Gave up on that for the day in the hopes of getting my power windows working since the dash/engine harness swap. Came to the conclusion that is one of the more dumb wiring designs I have ever come across. So in typical f*@& it fashion decide I'm just going to get 2 manual window doors as I prefer manual windows anyway and my doors have a decent but of rust at the bottom. Stopped by the local pick a part and came across these, Eddie Bauer doors intact minimal to no rust and manual windows? Really surprised to see manual ones in a EB..? They said $100 each so contemplating that this coming weekend as well as the T-case linkage I am in need of hopefully. Thoughts?

Well this project continues to out whit me. Still have a stutter mainly at low load/rpm idle is smooth. Don’t know what else to replace. Everything is new; sensors, ignition components, ECU, you name it. Looking towards fuel system replacement (lines mainly) as it has a new tank, pump, sending unit already. Vacuum lines are new clamps installed etc. Lift kit is weeks out no clue on time line. Got a few parts today from CSX power unit engine cores to make an intake. Guess that’s almost exciting…

The feller buncher pads are weight for my aerator and box blade. Don't mind them.

If you replaced a lot of ignition parts with parts store replacements I would start there looking for your miss. Install original parts or find motorcraft to see if miss goes away.
