1988 BII Build

just found out east coast gear has 3/4-16 bungs in stock for $8!!! now i can get one after work at not have to pay for shipping or wait for it to get here!!

did a little bit tonight. went and picked up the bung from ECGS after work. then shortened the track bar and welded it back up. it's bout perfect now. still have 1-1.5" of adjustment left in the heim, so it should be dead on when i tighten it a hair more.

i may rebuild the track bar frame mount, havent decided yet

i think these coils are gonna be perfect, with the tires on, it should sit just about level. if i have to i'll add a 1" block in the back, but i think i'm gonna be good

going out of town of thursday and wont be back til sunday, but i'm taking monday off, so i should have it on wheels by monday night. we'll see if i can get the knuckles and PA drilled out.

Looking good keep up the good work! I started a another SAS swap Ranger for my buddy Yesterday. He picked up at set of old early 70 Bronco axles. 44/9 combo. We did the 64" Chevy leafs and 9 Yesterday. Today we got the 44 in. Just have to finish the steering and new trans crossmember. He used the old radius arms so it was a super easy swap. Should finish it up in the morning. He is going to mess with brakes and few other things when he takes it back to Iowa.

Looking good.

bump for some updates......................:icon_bounceblue:

Get that bitch on all 4's already!! :D

tomorrow!

and i lied, a few small updates. couldnt stay out of the garage tonight lol

went and drilled out the knuckles (still need to do the pitman arm) and bolted up the TR. i may add a double sheer on top of the knuckle one day, it just doesnt look sturdy to me.

it's hitting on the front of the coil mount, so i'm gonna cut it up and add another spring retainer to the front

then i hooked up the brakes

mark my words, i WILL post of a pic of this thing OUTSIDE of the garage tomorrow night, GUARANTEED!!!!!!!

Everything looks good but the welds on the tube adapters. There's undercutting there. Plenty of penetration it looks like but...I'd put another bead around them just to be on the safe side.

And DEFINITELY double sheer that steering.

i've got about a foot between the top of the tire and the fender. gonna have to find some shorter coils i reckon. maybe some 2.5" or 3" ones. that or raise the rear a little with a block

it's got a nice bit of clearance on the bottom of the TR and the bottom of the diff and it's only on 31's.

i also cut up the front of the coil mount, no clearance issues now

the bad news:
the F-ing bolts for the tie rod are too high so the wheels wont turn. so it didnt make it out of the garage despite my guarantee lol.

steering is hooked up and brake hoses are run (just not bleed yet). just need to get the driveshaft shortened and installed and it'll be drivable finally. then i'll just need to figure out shock placement and get the exhaust hooked up.

plus i had to spend part of my day fixing the 8.8 on my DD explorer. damn seal on the diff cover had bleed through and there was a slight leak. the pinion seal might be shot as well, not sure. gonna keep an eye on it. plus, you can see on the left where the breather hose broke off somehow. ugggh, it's always something.

Wasn't it a great feeling when it finally sat back on all four tires again?

oh yeah, even though i'm gonna have to take them off again, i'm still really glad it's on all fours. i am annoyed that i got way more lift than i was thinking. i bet i could throw some 35's under there without any trouble. gonna drive the truck around the block and see if they settle at all. if not, guess i'll have to find some 2-3 inchers from somewhere.

i'm gonna drill out the knuckle to 3/4" and take out the misalignments to correct the steering hitting the wheel problem.

bleed the brakes and hook up the driveshaft. then i'll need to fab up the exhaust. then i'll need to fine tune the timing, it's a little off from where i took the motor out, but it's still drivable even with it off.

i also need to figure out where the coolant leak is coming from. looked and looked and i still cant find it. my fear is that it's coming from a freeze plug on the back of the block inside the bell housing. that would be just awesome if i could have to remove the trans :bawling:
