1988 BII Build

well, it's worth a shot. i'll have to do some digging to find a 1" bolt, i dont think lowes or home depot carries them. but it wont hurt to try.

just pm me an amount whenever you get one and i'll send you the $$$. i should still have your email in my paypal account. thanks a lot man

I can get you a bolt if you would like also. Pm your address so I can mail the tube to ya, I'm not good at remembering who is who in my paypal.

Spindles, bearing kits, tubing, etc. I run the parts department for a trailer and suspension shop in my area.

i'll see what happens when i get the tube from kyle. that's really the only thing holding me up from using the trailer spindle and bearings from northern tool. the tube would need to have some sort of recess in it for the races to sit on/in.

kyle, pm sent

so here's what i'm thinking using kyle m's idea.

because it's going to stick up, the bolt cant potrude in front of the tailgate, otherwise it wont open. so it needs to go on the outside, almost in front of the tail light

i'm gonna turn the 2x3 up on end as well. i think that is part of the reason it was saggin when it was opened.

here's how i'm thinking of doing it:

together

i'm gonna use my 3/16" plate i bought last week to make two brackets to come off the edge. that way it'll be far enough out that the tailgate wont hit it. hopefully it does cover the tail light too much

i HATE daylight savings.....i cant wait to spring forward. i only have an hour after i get home from work before it gets dark. i need to get this damn b2 out of my garage so i can fab stuff inside and see what i'm doing.

anyways, i used some cardboard to figure out where i wanna place my tire carrier brackets. turns out, i should be able to tuck it all inside the body lines so it isnt hanging off everywhere.

and the swing out arm will sit right above the bumper

since i have to wait for kyle to mail me the tube and bolt, i can get some other stuff so that it's actually drivable (ie, brakes, steering, d-shaft, etc.)

bolt and tube is on it's way. cutting out my plates after work tonight so i can have those ready to go on.

traced my cardboard and cut out the plates. gonna tack it together and drill a 1" hole for the bolt

didnt get to work yesterday, had to help my dad move some computer stuff at his office in the morning, then helped a buddy from work move the rest of the afternoon.

i did get these plates though. it's 3/16" plate and about 23" long. i might weld 2 together and make a winch plate, but who knows.

on with the bumper. kyles idea worked pretty good. we'll see what happens when i get the tire mounted, but it seems to be pretty stout so far.

bolt and tube, the bolt is huge, our local ace hardware doesnt even sell anything that big. they did have 1" washers though.
P2020003.jpg

tacked the brackets together and drilled a 1" whole, then positioned them on the bumper and tacked them on
P2020001.jpg

P2020004.jpg

then tacked in a 1/8" piece of flat stock inside so i'd have a 90 degree angle to weld on
P2020005.jpg

cut my DOM down to 4" and test fit everything
P2020006.jpg

then tacked on the swing out bar, test it and burnt in the top and bottom
P2020009.jpg

P2020007.jpg

then burned the brackets on for good
P2020010.jpg

put the bolt in and tacked it in place, added an o-ring to the bottom, hopefully to keep the grease in, added one to the top as well
P2020011.jpg

put the bar on

works really good for how simple it is. i have some leftover DOM from kyle, so i may put it in between the 2 brackets for a little more strength.

big thanks to kyle for the tube/bolt and idea, i appreciate it!!

looks good man, i haven't even thought about a spot for my spare tire...

build you're own carrier of some sort.....i've probably only got around $100 into this one. maybe $125 with the hole saws i've bought......and i can keep reusing them.

took 2 of my plates and welded them together tonight. looks like it's gonna work great for a winch plate. didnt hardly warp either i dont think. that'll save me from having to spend $50 at harbor freight for one.

What thickness is that? The one from Harbor Freight I have looks chincy as hell. I dont think Im going to use it. Might as well make one outa 3/16 or 1/4"
