Hello all, I have a 1988 bronco II with the a4ld automatic transmission and it is going out. A buddy of mine has a 1990 bronco II with the a4ld automatic transmission and his motor crapped out but the transmission is good. Will this be a direct fit into my 1988? Both of these trucks have the V6 engine and are both 4 wheel drive.

When I search the salvage yard compatability charts they say the 1990 transmission is different than the 1988 / 1989. If anyone knows what the differences are and if I can make the 1990 transmission work in my 1988 please let me know. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

i dunno of any reason that wouldn't work. The same tranny, same engine, same vehicle. There is probably some insignificant thing thats semi-related to the trans that is different that would make the junk yard charts say that.

I am honestly no expert. thats Allan. but i believe if they are 2.9s they should swap. if ones a 2.9. and the other is a 3.0 they won't swap. not without changing the bellhousing on the transmission. if you have both trannys you should be able to swap the housings.

I seem to remember something about control for the transmissions between those years maybe different as well. someone else jump in at this point !
