Just wondering when I go from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd and so on my rps drop a good amount. But once I shift from 4th to 5th (overdrive) my rpms only drop maybe 7%. So wth is going on? I have 3.55s and its a 4x4 but really? I definatley would think that being a non fullsize truck it would atleast have a 20% overdrive or maybe 30% . Is this normal???

I don't feel like figuring out the math, but here's your gear ratios. Maybe they hold your answer.

3.769 / 2.210 / 1.516 / 1.00 / 0.812

Why would it being a less than full size truck give it a higher OD ratio? Yes it's a lighter vehicle, but it's still a truck, meant for moving and hauling and towing and working, and it has a smaller engine.

By the gear ratios looks more like a 17 percent change. I doubt you are getting anything different. Have some exact 4th/5th RPM number before/after shift? More likely the tach isn't providing a linear reading.

Lots of times I just shift from 3rd to 5th. Very little difference except for the fact that I have always loved rowing my own gears. No automatics for me. I was glad when I could get a 5 sp instead of the old 4's. Nothing beats a muscle car w/ a close ratio 4 speed though. IMOP

Takes me back to my young carefree days when I drag raced a friends 68 L88 Corvette. We put in a Muncy crashbox. Balanced/blueprinted, 6.13 gears with a Detroit locker. Meanest car I ever drove. Back in 73 it turned high 9s and would carry the front wheels thru 1st gear. Those were the days!

Thanks. And yea I guess so adsm. I was driving my brother in laws stick shift car for a cupple days and noticed his had a lot bigger 5th gear difference. But yea my truck is still a truck
