I have a 1987 Ranger 4x4 2.9. Is there any manual 5-speed trans or a 4-speed that I can put in it without having to do a lot of wiring?

What do you have now, an auto? There is a lot of info on doing a 5-speed swap around here, it seems almost everyone eventually gets rid of their autos.

Tech library has some info, like this one...
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/A4LDto5Speed.html
but most people say to swap in the newer m50d mazda transmission.
Use the search, theres tonnes of info on this around.

yea got the A4ld and want to get a 4-speed or a 5-speed. i looked around and saw that the TK-5 or the FM145. but need to know what kind of wiring i need to do if any, not a big fan of doing electrical.

You dont want the fm145. Its crap. fm146 is fine with your 2.9l, but the m50d is stronger, so if you want to do a 4.0l swap later you will want to do the m50d.

you have to swap the main computer unit in from a vehicle that had a manual transmission for it to work properly, it will run without this but will always throw all sorts of codes, other than that its the neutral safety switch, reverse lights, and a couple other small things like that
