1987 Ranger 2.3 to 1991 4.0 Engine Swap.

Only way to get 2 O2 sensors is a newer ~94 PCM and the extra wiring involved. (Also usually comes with SFI and the CPS.) Could do an x or h pipe but those are usually even more in the way of the transmission. Flip the manifolds like a turbo setup and run the exhaust out the front?

My 88 had the triple function switch. Always thought 87 did too. Only thing I can think of for switch to the PCM is the for clutch pressed while rolling idle?

I used the throttle cable from my 91 Explorer harness donor. Since your clutch switch setup is different the throttle pedal might be too. If you have the cable from the 91 you could at least compare and get the approximate length.

RockAuto lists a sender for 87:
Ohms Empty80
Ohms Full10

I'm not versed in AC myself but my understanding is that when a system is assembled there is a certain amount of oil to be used that isn't in those cans. I know they sell oil seperately.

So for the Exhaust how critical do you think it'd be to measure both banks? I could just run the 02 sensor on one bank and it'd still run fine right?
I kinda figured swapping to 2 02 sensors would mean a EECM swap and more wiring so I'm not gonna go that route.
I'm not too familiar with an Exhaust running out the front.

I'm not too sure why the EECM had a clutch input but I do see it in the drawings. And the 87 has what appears to be a 2 contact switch. I'm gonna pull it out and see if both contacts are Normally Open. If so I'll wire on contact to the EECM and the other to the Start Circuit.

I don't have a cable from the 91 but I can hit up some scrap yards maybe find the length and get one to make up.

Thank you for the Sender OHMs I'm gonna check and make sure I have the right Sender on it. And get that pump swapped.

I'm thinking for the AC system my best bet is to figure out the wiring and then take it to a mechanic to charge and fill.

Thank you for your help.

Without the O2 on both banks, you could have a stopped up or leaking injector and you might not notice till something went boom, but I'm sure people have done it before.

I know early TBI Chevy guys love to unhook the O2 sensor and swear they get better mileage AND more power.

The stopped or leaking fuel injector was definitely a thought of mine. I'm gonna try to find a guy who does exhaust to figure out what can be done.

just run it. it is bank fire anyway.

if it gets angry about it then get a sniper.
