I have a 1987 Ford Ranger 4x4 2.9L I just purchased. It misses at around 2500-3000 rpm when driving. It also when you push the clutch in goes to 2000 rpm and may idle 2000 rpm sometimes. It also seems to lack power

1st things 1st....get codes...go from there.

congrats on your purchase:icon_thumby:

I realize you were hoping for a spot on solution....but, that is really unrealistic. There is many things it could be. Most likely you have more than just 1 issue.

IN the mean time...what has been done??
Has it had a tune up lately??? How about the air & fuel filters, have they been changed. What componets have been replaced??

suggestions;
make sure the electrical connections are good as well as the many grounds, & check for vacuum leaks.

ALso clean and or replace the AIC, this controls idle.
