I'm looking for some advice as I'm in the middle of changing this chain out and looking at my gasket set. This is suppose to be a complete set for changing out the timing chain and comes with a timing cover gasket as well as a new water pump gasket and three pieces that are for replacing the outter portion of the pan gasket that becomes exposed once you remove the chain cover. I won't be using this because I removed the entire pan because of leaks. I figured while going this far I might as well replace the entire gasket. Also in the set was a new front crank seal and two flat sided o-ring style rubber rings about 1" in diameter? I can't figure out for the life of me where they go. I didn't find anything like them when I tore into this thing. Is it possible they were just thrown in for another application. Like a universal set. A different type 2.9 that might need these? I don't want to put things back together and then find out later they went somewhere and then have another problem. One thing good about these gasket sets, They never come with a whole lot of instruction.:headbang:Help!

most likely it is a universal gasket set and the O-ring/s you mentioned are for another application as you say.

Best thing maybe to do is gather them up return them to the Auto parts store and ask them what they are for....just mention to them that you're concerned about missing something. If the folks behind the counter are worth a hoot, they'll help you figure it out. helps if they aren't real busy at that picticular moment too.

you dont need em....

If you dropped the pan, on the drivers side you will have an Oil sensor the bolts in to the side of the pan. your sensor may require that.. at least you should have the new washer like gaskets to replace those. I would like to find the engineer that put a hole in the side of an oil pan..
