my sisters owns the above said vehicle. its a clean car. 2 door. 2.5l 4 banger. blah blah

when she bought it the dude told her everything under the hood has been rebuilt within the last year. the tach says 205k miles. when she takes off from a start theres a little blue smoke. so it has not been rebuilt. thats not the issue.

the guy also said he just had it rewired. everything worked fine for 2 weeks and now her lights dont work. no brakes. no blinkers. no headlights. no hazzards. nothing. i checked all the bulbs there all good. fuzes are all good.

when she turns the left blinker on it has a blink blink pause for 3 seconds blink blink. repeat. the right blinker has nothing. and its only the left rear blinker that works. if she turns on her lights. she has them for like 5 minutes then they go away and come back as they please. if she turns on the headlights. the tail lights light up. i believe there called marker lights. so ppl can c u. but the brake lights still dont work.

i got under the hood today and found a blue ground wire that goes to the passenger headlight. i ground it to the battery cuz thats where it was zip tied off to. she turned on the head lights, 15 minutes later the passenger headlight was still on but no driver side head light. and still no blinkers. except the one. and same deal as before with brake lights.

this leads me to believe that each corner has a ground some place thats not ground. but the previous owner said its a closed circuit connection. idk hardly ANYTHING about electrical. but if it was closed circuit. one ground should ground them all correct? and if one wasnt working none of them should work...

help?

You have more than one circuit involved so you will need to start tracing stuff to find out what's happening. I've worked on a few xj's of similar vintage and there were a few things that seem to be common problems, fuse panels, light switches and wires that break off the brake light switch.

up on the firewall, where the plugs go into the cab, ill almost bet its got a bad connection, or a broken wire.

had this same problem on my 86 grand wagoneer.

plan on replacing the headlight switch too.

will check these things next time she stops in. yeah shes an idiot. i cant stop her from driving it all around town 150 miles a day like this. this is why she is not explorer worthy.

someone has mentioned to her before that its probably the blinker box? wth is this blinker box? are they talking about the actual lever near the steering wheel? and the entire thing has been rewired you can tell that. so everything is mounted in different locations. all the fuse relay boxes are now on the sides along the fendors. and some are even in the center near the carb/air filter. i hate this jeep ill never buy one after working on it.

her e-brake broke today to. the button just broke off. they quit making the button so she has to buy a whole new ebrake lever and ratcheting system. its i think 276 bucks at the local stealership. i said jy. but she said no. cuz she "has to have brand new".

Fleebay.

Those Cherokees suck.

The full size cherokee chiefs and wagoneers are much better. And they take a good kicking too
