1986 Ford Ranger 2.0 Idle/Stalling Problem Help!

I think there were two transmission options (manual) for the 2.0 engine...one was the M5OD (4 spd with Overdrive) and the other was a 4 speed with no OD...

I identified mine as the M5OD by the drain and fill hole locations...they are directly in line vertically with each other...if you have a pic of the clutch line connector I might be able to say if it's the same as mine...

You may also be able to adapt the line if needed...but maybe someone can identify it by the number you posted...it's not something I'm familiar with...terrible with part numbers....

by checking your tranny number..

I went ahead and ordered a new clutch hose from Drivewire, hopefully it's the correct one!

I've got an E67A-7003-BC transmission in this truck. Was that the original that came with them or was a swap done at some point?

with "drivetrain"..

It should be a tk5 or tk4 depending on 4 or 5 spd..the pic of your trans looks like one..probably came in your rig although they were more common in 83-85's but for Aerostars,,they were used much later IIRC..patricularly in AWD..hang in there

hang in there...

John you're right, it's a TK5 (Toyo-Kogyo 5). I think this specific truck also had the FM145's as a possibility. I'll shoot you guys over some pictures shortly.

I've got the bell housing off now and new slave cylinder in hand ready to install. While I've got the housing off I wanted to change out the transmission fluid, gasket, and anything else I can while it's off.

Any other recommendations?

What sort of transmission fluid do you all use, and should I use it also?

Quick question.

Yellow - Is this my drain plug?

Red - Is this my fill plug?

I heard you want to fill the transmission to just at the point it starts to come out of the fill plug. I was thinking of leveling the transmission, removing the fill plug, filling the transmission from the shifter area up top and waiting just when it starts to dribble out the fill plug and cap it off.

Thoughts?

If you can do it that way it would be a bit easier than trying to pump it from below...I bought a syphon pump and filled mine with that because I couldn't get the jug high enough to pour it in once the tranny was installed...

Hey guys,

Back in town for a week. Just a quick update, don't have any pictures. The hose that came in while I was away for the past few months worked perfect. I got the transmission back up in the truck today, new master cylinder and slave cylinder installed. I bled the line over a few hours and now it's got a solid clutch pedal feel. What really helped to get the last of the air out of the line was to jack the rear end of the truck as high as a could to get all the bubbles out of the master cylinder. Worked like a charm!

Hoping I'll be able to crank her up tomorrow. Just need to refill the transmission fluid and should be good to go. I didn't end up replacing any seals or doing a flush of the transmission. We'll see how it goes. :)

Wondered where you went to...hope it works out for you...nothing like patience when it comes to rebuilding a Ranger...:icon_thumby:
