1986 Ford Ranger 2.0 Idle/Stalling Problem Help!

I got really nervous because I couldnt start it and couldn't figure out the issue. After removing the clutch master cylinder I noticed the wire into the cap had fallen out. Put it back in and it fired up on the first crank, purred like brand new. The engine is running perfect. Dropping the transmission today.

Got the driveshaft and starter off, but ran out of light. I noticed oil or tranny fluid coming out of the tranny when I pulled the driveshaft out. What would be there (leakage from a seal? tranny fluid, oil?) About half a cup's worth.

When I lifted the motor and transmission out of mine (had the cab and box off) with a forklift it tilted and about the same amount poured out...there is a seal at the tail of the transmission (I think) that keeps th
e fluid in normally...it should be fine, just top it up when everything is back in place...

I added some TransMedic to mine to help swell the seals, but was told afterwards that it doesn't help much...that reminds me...have to check mine while it's still warm.

I added a quart of this "rear main seal protector/repair," how that seal differs from any other is beyong me, but a cheap $5 worth a shot.

I've read that they advise not doing a transmission flush on high mileage ones because the gunk could be protecting leaks. Do you think the same? Just top it off?

Rear engine seal

is what "I THINK" label refer's to.I'd flush it while its out pull the pan and use some diesel or kerosene "NO GAS" replace the seals and put it back in.Don't 4get lube! LOL:icon_thumby:

I can't for the life of me get the top two bolts off the transmission. I have no angle from top or bottom. How did you guys do it?

I'm sure there is a relatively inexpensive tool that can reach those two bolts...I dropped the cross member that the tranny tail sits on at one point (to replace it, actually) and that could allow better access...just make sure you back off the motor mounts if you do it that way...or you may tear them out...not a needed expense probably about now...

As for the tranny flush...if you're going to disassemble it and replace the seals then it would be something to do...otherwise...adding a sealer to it should work fine as long as it doesn't sit for a while...but keep an eye on the fluids for a while after assembly.

I flushed my engine once and that resulted in more problems than I bargained for...but that could've be due to coincidental effects...

What a pain in the ass to remove those top two bolts.

Wish I had time to do the clutch.

Do it!

If you have any doubt about your clutch DO IT haste makes waste!:icon_welder:

I need the replacement hose between the master cylinder and slave cylinder. Any ideas?

I appreciate your help, but my hose connections differ from the ones in the pictures. Mine has a pin that I pull on the transmission and the hose can be pulled right off.

I'm trying to locate a picture for you. The only hose I found online has a quick disconnect plastic connection peice (which doesn't look the same as mine either).

I know which one you want..

what i was trying to say is that this company.."Centric" makes one..you just need to ask for the correct year and they will send you one..The one you need is the most common for 86-87....and is used for both 2.3's, and 2.9's..(basically an internal slave feed line for an FM145 style trans)...best wishes..

Thank you!

I went ahead and ordered a new clutch hose from Drivewire, hopefully it's the correct one!

I've got an E67A-7003-BC transmission in this truck. Was that the original that came with them or was a swap done at some point?
