1986 Ford Ranger 2.0 Idle/Stalling Problem Help!

Yes, the pressure indicates the piston is on the way up and the valves are closed so you get compression (hence the name of the cycle)...

Once you do that, shine a light in the plug hole and try moving the crank slightly...you will see the piston head rise and fall slightly...and you want it right at the top of the cylinder...that is TDC...the timing is then adjusted so that spark happens just before TDC and it all gets together in one glorious gang bang...

nice analogy.. thanks for the help guys, have everything put back on but I'm missing a bolt for the intake manifold. Not sure how, going to head up to ace hardware and see if they can make me a replica from one of the others.

Dont forget the pictures and maybe a video of it running. Glad to hear its back together.

I don't think hardware stores carry the same type of bolts...they tend to have a slightly different thread...either they're course or fine or metric vs standard, but I could not find a match for most of my engine bolts in a hardware store...I ended up going back to the junkyard and taking a few extras...

But don't forget, that the one at the back is a peg connector for the ground wire to the body...so if you stuck a regular one in there you may find the peg connector lying around...and I think the intake bolts are the same size as the bolts used on the EGR...but if you find the exact size and thread type maybe your hardware suppliers might have the ones you need...

I found the right size. They were metric 1.25's. Fit like a glove! I've got everything on and I'm headed out right now to hook up the vac lines - that should be interesting.

have fun with the vac lines. theres only 9124345424345 lines on the thing.

LOL

Naw more like 9124345424346 and 53.14% either T off into something or have a 5 mile rought that could have been shorter.

Just messing around, ya vacuum lines arent fun to hook back up.

No, better, because nobody looks at the engine till you smoke their butts and wonder what you have under the hood...:)

But it does look good...hope that's high heat paint...we may be seeing smoke from under the hood and not the tires...

Yes it's all high heat paint. Hell can 78hp even smoke tires. Doubt it :]
