1986 Bronco II Tach

Yesterday I went to get my Bronco inspected. Everything was fine. When I started the Bronco to leave, I noticed my Tach was dead. I got home and turned off the Bronco. I started it again and it worked for 2 seconds and stopped, right when it stopped I gave it some gas and it moved a little. After that, nothing. Only when I start it will it work for a few seconds and quit. Does that sound like the Tach is dead? or maybe a loose wire? Also, does anyone have the FORD PN # for the Tach Itself?

Edited the title...I don't think ford has come out with a bronco III yet...unless your from the future??!!??
As far as the tach, I would check the wiring first as that's free.

Probably something got bumped during the inspection, check all your wiring connections before throwing a bunch of money at a replacement that still isn't going to work until your wiring is corrected LOL.

Where does the wire come from under the hood? and color?

I doubt something got 'bumped' or otherwise happened during the inspection to cause this.

The tach head is probably dying.

The wire you are after is green (and possibly yellow) at the coil, I think it changes to a tan/yellow under the dash.

Check the green wires coming out of the coil under the hood, something may have been bumped there.

Well during the inspection, No one was under my hood. Just horn (Honk) blinkers, etc...

If it is a faulty Tach, does anyone know the factory pn#?

Just out of curiosity, I was watching some videos on YouTube about ranger tachs, but they were for the 91+ and saw the tachs had a lot of problems with the solder joints on one corner. Does anyone know if there was an issue with the 86 year tachs?
