1985 ranger

sup im new to this forum

couple months ago i got a 1985 ranger
specs: 2.3 single barrel carburetor
2wd
no powersteering
4speed with overdrive

i need more power

i took all the smog stuff off still not that big of an increase in power

i have a header that im waiting to put on

but other than that its slower than dirt

what do ?

check your gear ratio in the rear axle. if it's a 3.08 or 3.45, going to 3.73 or 4.10 gears will help lots. check out our Tech Library (tab at the top of the page) for other ideas and info on finding out which gears you have in your truck. only other option really is a motor swap with a 4.0 v6 or 5.0 v8 as first choices.
