I have a 1985 ford ranger 2.8 cologne v6. No spark. The tfi was just replaced( I don’t believe the old one was even bad), the coil works fine and I just replaced the cap and rotor. I know that there’s a constant 12v going into the distributor but nothing comes out from any of the plug wires. Yes have been considering a Durasprk swap but I currently cannot. Any ideas?

Do you have a testlight? If you do, go to the coil and check for 12v on the red/lightgreen wire when you turn the key to run. If that is good, clip the alligator clip to a good ground and then probe the darkgreen/yellow wire on the other side of the coil plug. While holding the probe on this wire, get someone to crank it over. Is the testlight blinking?

No it just dims, there’s no distinct flash.

Also the cam position sensor wouldn’t have anything to do with it not grounding, right?

Pull the coil wiring plug off. Is it in good shape? Mine fell apart on me and I had to get another one. Check all the wiring plugs over there on the driver's side inner fender. Both my ranger and my Bronco II had problems with the driver's side tire throwing road dirt and water up on all that wiring when you made a left turn. I ended up putting a rubber shield in that area to stop it.

Unplug and plug everything in over there and see if you have any bad corrosion over there.

It could be the stator inside the distributor, it looks like this. You’ll need to pull the distributor, dive out the roll pin holding on the distributor gear, and use a gear puller to remove the distributor drive gear to replace it.

Thanks, I’ll pull the distributor out tomorrow and check it for any damage or issues.

Is there a way to check the stator once you have removed the distributor?
