hey whats up, ranger station, im new to the board and have a couple of questions about my 1985 ford ranger 2.8L rwd A.T, i just found a replacement transmission, that came out of a 1986 ford ranger 2.9L rwd A.T, will this bolt up to my engine without swapping out parts from my older one? also right where the tranny mount bolts up to is cracked, so can i just swap out the tail housing from my older one? And what about the brake lines and the linkage? thanks in advance fellas.

cracked where it mounts to the motor or cross member. eather way it can be swapted. the shift linkage as long as its the same style(floor or colum)

you say brake line do you meen trans cooler lines on the pasenger side of the trans, if so yes

its all the same crap save time rebuild the trans first before you install it, save your time.

lol, my bad i ment the cooler lines, thanks for the input, how hard is it to swap out the rear tail housing? will i need a gasket? sent rep!

when you do the tail shaft housing have it in park, be careful when removing it there is a spring loaded parking pawl sandwiched betwine the case and the tail shaft housing. when reinstalling it put the shifter all the way into first gear. wile your there you should replace the output seal. and see about putting a drain plug in the trans pan, makes life easyer.

man, thanks for those extra tips, I needed that kind of info on the tail shaft housing. this will be my first time messing with any kind of housing on a transmission, except bolting housing to engine...You think I pick up a tail shaft housing gasket up at a local parts store?

aye yo, thanks viper for helping me with this transmission, i got the tranny in and everything worked perfectly, no leaks, but had too wait till the converter warmed up to add more fluid, i thought it was full so i took it for a ride made a left and then it slipped outta gear, i instantly put it in neutral and pushed it back to house, to find the fluid was still low, so i filled it up rite this time, and tried it out again and there we have it everything works fine, shifting perfectly and soft.. i just havent check the overdrive yet i will soon when i get time too...BTW the old tranny i took out was screwed up, tranny fluid smelled very badddd, words couldnt even tell you how it smelled...but thanks for all your help bro...:icon_cheers:
