1984 Skamper 072S

I don't have water storage per se in my camper. My sink is hooked up straight to a water hose... hook up the hose in a campground and I've got water in the sink. I just drain it onto the ground. I figure 99% of the time I'm using the camper, I'm in a campground, so that arrangement works well... hot water just requires a little boil time on the stove.

In the unlikely situation that I'm somewhere without a water hookup... I just take a 7 gallon jug and pour out of that as needed. Pressurized, hot water is only truly necessary for showering and even then not really if you do a gravity fed setup.

WTF is "showering"?

Mine can roll either way, I have an external hookup too.

However dad is buying a 60 acre slice of my grandpa's farm (with a pond) and offered to let me "build" a campsite there... so there will be no electric or water available.

There's no water in the pond? :icon_confused:

Not so much this year, it is almost more of a wallow.

The dam needs overhauled and it has been incredibly dry.

I was thinking about trying one of those vents with the low draw led fans built in as a crutch for not having A/C anyway. Blowing the hot air out the roof is supposed to make a big difference for helping with circulation. Power is literally an inch from the vent via the "kitchen" light.

Still hoping to take it out this year, it's only like 4 miles to my favorite Campground.

Check out etrailer for ideas on what is out there. They might have exactly what you are looking for or something better.

I will say the roof fan is probably the best money I spent as far as comfort when I rebuilt our popup. No AC in that thing and honestly we have never really needed it. We aren't in the camper much during the day when it's hot, and it cools off very quickly with the fan at night. I don't remember what the brand was, but it had a cheesy name, like something you'd expect Billy Mays to be pitching on late-night TV. Our is just a basic one with a few speeds controlled manually, but they have more complex controls, like sensors that will shut the vent if it senses rain. An unintended but kind of nice benefit is it collects the bugs that get inside the camper. They end up there and land on the screen, then can't take off again due to the airflow. We have a little cordless vacuum that we suck up the bugs with.

The neat thing about the fan is my vent is a weird size (yeah, didn't see that coming either) so for a modern fan/vent I have to enlarge the hole.

Of course, why wouldn't it be. Mine probably was too, but since I was redoing the roof it didn't matter for me. If you can do it, I still think it's definitely worth doing even if it requires some surgery. However, I know what a can of worms these campers can be.

We were camping over the weekend and the heater quit on us at midnight Friday night. 40F is ok when you're prepared for it, but when you're used to having a heater and geared accordingly it's rather uncomfortable. I can't get the pilot to stay lit; we tried a new thermocouple and pulling apart what I had tools to do while we were camping but no dice so far. It's 50+ years old and owes the world nothing at this point, but I really like it because it requires no electricity to run. The new ones have a little blower and stuff. Of course there is no documentation anywhere for the dang thing. Last night when we got home I took the gas valve and burner out and I'm going to carefully give it a deep clean, then try to test fire it in the garage. Also found one of the brackets for the bows that hold the tent up over the bed ends had ripped out, so I have to fix that too. Old campers are a gift that keeps on giving.

Hopefully there is enough reinforcement material around the opening that you don’t have to start from scratch.
