Hey i was just going to double check something...

What ECM/Computer is supposed to be in a 83 5speed 2.8

Im thinking someone threw in the wrong computer before me?

And if its all good what computers can i put on there?

I saw a nice computer at pick n pull off an 84 bronco 5speed 2.8

Would that work?

THanks guys

well if you have a 2.8 its carbed so you wouldnt have an ecu, and unless im wrong the ecu controls the efi's but idk about computers so i could be wrong

Oh I thought it was called ecu... whatever.. the computer box... passenger side by the floorboard... that's what I'm talking about

Anyone?

I talked to a local Ranger parts collector today he said he had 2 rangers that wouldnt pass and they switched the computers out and they passed...

So i think i might need one... if not it wouldnt hurt to have a spare?

Which types of computer can i have on my truck?

the 2.8 has a computer that controls the carb and also the ignition.

If you can find one for free, then go for it. Otherwise, I seriously doubt it's your issue. Go to your library and search the reference section for a Mitchell manual for your year (or 84 or 85). It will give you very specific troubleshooting info to nail down your problems.
