ok im fixing to get a 77 f150 4 wheel drive with a 4 speed, and a 351modified. it has the 9 inch rear end, dont know what the front axle is anyway, how does the 351 m do powerwise something like 160hp. it has 3.50 gears and the guy said hes pretty sure it has limited slip. he also said it had a 4 inch lift on it from the factory, all i know is it sets up pretty hi and its only on 235s. how big a tire can i fit under here if it has a 4 inch lift. and is the front axle strong enuff to weld the diff. for river running and mudbugs. should i swap the modified out for a bigger bigblock or run it till it blows. let me know thanks.:icon_thumby:

those 351m's are good strong motors would be good for trail running but not so much high rpm mud stuff. the front axle is prolly a dana 44

would i be alright if i welded the front diff, and do you think i could clear 37''s on the 4'' lift?

yea it might be alright but not with 37s i dont think they would fit my friend has a 79 f 250 with the same motor and same factory lift and he had 33s. u could put 35s on it tho

ok, im lookin for some 16'' rims so i can put 315s on it my dad had a 77 f150 with a 4'' lift he had 33''s and it looked like he could clear alot bigger tire.

its got a flatbed on it so i dont have to worry about the back tires rubbing just on the bottom of the bed, and i can trim the fenders.

u could prolly clear a bigger tire but they would have no place to go when u flex it unless u cut out the fenders. wouldnt be hard to lift it tho cuz its a solid axle.

its got a 4 inch lift on it. will a 390, or a 460 bolt up to the trans?

what trans do you have? theres a good chance a BB will bolt right up. broncograveyard.com has 429/460 swap kits for those trucks.

its a manual 4 speed, not for sure the model, got a 351modified in it but would like to get a lil bigger motor, theres no replacement for displacement.

I ran 12.50x33. on my 1975 f-150 with no lift. The 351 is a good engine run it.

I ran 33x 12.50x15 on a stock 1979 Bronco it had a 400m and was a auto. It was a mud/trail truck.

I had no tire issues like rubbing or anything. With a 4 inch lift you can probably run 35's or 36's but don't push you luck with the front axle......they are strong but they can break axle shafts if you weld it posi and really get on it.
I ran quite a few 351m's they are tough motors but sure go through the fuel :annoyed: I know 351m,400m share the same bellhousing as the big block 429 and 460's with the automatics.....I think manual should be the same........ Got any Pictures of the truck to post?

Oh and you will have a dana 44 for the front axle and the 9 inch for the rear.

Same thing as my 79 Bronco axles I'm going to pull out to use for a SAS in my 94 Explorer :icon_hornsup:, thats the common axles guys are swaping in.
