it needs a new transmission and seats, it's got a 351 under the hood.

a friend of mine has it, his bell is cracked and it shakes going first to second, third gear is siezed up.

anybody know what will bolt up to his engine and t-case and fit the truck?

NP435? What does it have now?

Is it a C, M, or W? Makes a difference in the bolt patterns.

A lot of those small block bells were removable though, just go find another one.

i don't know what he's got in it, but he said the bell is part of the transmission casing.

the truck was a bit legoed together from what he's told me.

he also said it was a windsor.

The 351W, 302, and 300-6 all use the same bolt pattern. He could put in any of the manual transmissions that came with those all the way up to the end of using the 302/351/300 in pickups, 1996 for F150, 1997 for F250/350 (other combinations may be possible, but using a tranny from a pickup would be the most common and easiest).

He could go with a four or five speed, most common would be T18 or NP435 (four speed) or the M5OD-R2 or ZF (five speed). Does he currently have a five speed? To the best of my knowledge (and I don't know everything), the integral bellhousings came out in the late '80s in the form of the M5OD-R2 and the ZF (for Ford).

Transfer cases he could easily use include, but not limited to: NP208, BW-1345, BW-1356. He could use others, basically anything behind a transmission that bolted up to a V8 or 300 Ford (as well as some others).

As you can see there are a lot of choices! Since his rig is not stock there are many different combinations that could be in there.

he said he has a divorced transfer case, but he may not actually know what that means.

he currently has a five speed, but i don't know which one.

I would think it's likely the M5OD-R2 or the ZF. The biggest difference from a driver stanpoint is first gear. The ZF has a granny first gear, while the R2 has a more normal first gear ratio. Unless he has some weird tire size/axle ratio combo, he probably wouldn't use first gear much if he had the ZF unless he was crawling offroad. Other differences are that the ZF is a much heavier duty unit.

These transmissions were available in 2wd trucks so it is possible he's running a divorced t-case. The only way to know is to crawl under and check it out.
