194 doesn't fit?

So I got my 8 leds on saturday and tried to put 2 of them in my hvac controls this morning, however, the base of the 194 led was far wider than the base of the stock bulb! So what bulb number is used to replace the stock bulbs behind the hvac controls? And I don't want to take apart my dash only to find out the leds don't fit back there either. Are the bulbs behind the dash 194 for sure? Thanks for any help.

In my experience, the 194 bulbs fit in both places (instrument and HVAC) for general lighting. Size 1815 or 161 bulbs are in the instrument panel indicator spots. Size 1815 lights the headlight switch.
What bulbs are in the HVAC controls now? Take one to a parts store and they can tell you what size they are (or you can compare to bulbs on the rack).
I think the only bayonet base bulbs smaller than 194 are 1815 or 161.
I only know that 194's fit my hvac center in my '99 ranger. 194's also fit in my '02 F350 hvac center.

Yeah, I already checked that out but their was no listing for hvac controls. I don't know why they are smaller... All of the posts I've ever read have been the 194's pretty much everywhere.

Oh, and I got the leds into my main cluster but there is still a slight green hint to it. (or so it seems, it has been dark enough to really tell.)

I think in 00 or 01 they changed the bulbs in the HVAC to the 161, My 99 had 194's all around but my moms 02 had 194's in the dash and 161's in the HVAC or so i believe they were

I can't seem to find any 161 leds on superbrightleds.com. I select that type of led but it still says 194/168 type bulb...

The green hint comes from the backing of the plastic face on the cluster. If you want to remove the green, you have to remove the green tint from the back of the plastic face that the numbers are printed on.

Yeah, I've heard that the led color shows through the green film, it doesn't, cept I haven't been in total darkness yet so idk for sure. And I don't want to try to reset the needles. That would be no fun. Unless there is a way to remove the backing without taking the needles off?

Guess I'll be scraping off the back in a few weeks or so. Maybe on tuesday. Can I take the gauge faces off without removing the needles?

I had the same problem when i did my whole dash in leds, you might need 74-xHP3, but in my 05 that was every bulb in the dash

Hm, I may just be switching it out one day to blue. But for now I will run the neon green proudly! Haha, I don't think I can return them :/

i guess so, when i ordered mine i did it with a friend so it had all of our bulbs and i just sent mine back and they took it
