Ok. So I've read the FAQ and either I'm blind or can't read. So I have to ask

94 ranger splash. Non stock drivetrain. Have a 8.8 in the read now stil 5x4.5 bolt pattern

I need to lock up the rear end and I wanted to go as wide as humanly possibly with this rear end. I've seen a couple posts of guys running 15x12, but with huge back spacing and I'm not 100% sure how to measure it properly. I'll be running Mickey Thompson ETs on the rear, and I can figure out the fronts so I just need help with the back end.

So the question proposed is, can I run 15x12 or stick with 15x10. Then go with something like a 295/50/15? Or am i gonna be rubbing.

Thanks in advance.

This is how I would measure, from the edge of the spring pack to the rim mounting surface of the axle. (I'm guessing the following) take off 1" for tire bulge. What's left is the rim backspace.
I'm definitely not a tire guru but I think that would work. The only concern I have is the tire bulge, some tires will have more or less. Especially a wrinkle wall.
Hopefully someone with better input chimes in.
Good luck,

Richard

I agree to measure the clearance of the existing wheels and decide how much deeper in I could go. Something to consider is that 15" wheels are pretty much going obsolete, at least in my area, and becoming hard to find specific tires for them. I just put 15's on my ride, BFG's, but wished I'd looked harder into going w/ 16's. Those wide tires aren't cheap either.

You can inboard your springs to gain a good bit more room.

FYI 15s are become scarce in any type non-stock size. 31-35s are still dime a dozen, but 36+ are becoming harder to find (except for tires like Boggers and Swampers).....17s are the new 15

FWIW, The 295/50/15 tire measurement equates to 26.6" /11.6" /15"
You can research The Tire Size Chart For 15" Wheels for other sizes you may wish.

I narrowed my 8.8 3" and moved the springs under the frame with Explorer mounts. I run 15x12s with 7.5 backspacing, 28x15.50x15 tires. BUT, my TOY isn't a DD either.

Hey

I measured last night and I have 7.5" space between the spring pack and the outside of the drum (mating surface where the wheel Goes on) so if I understand correctly. I should be able to run anything UP TO 7" backspacing and be on without an overly large risk or rubbing. Now there may be other variables I haven't considered. What about offset now?

Thanks again for all the help

Btw chvlfrk that's a sweet setup and ride. What's the power plant and did you upgrade your leafs?

I run the James duff traction bars over slappers, any benefits?

Thanks

I would say 6.5". That's without articulation tho, you may need less if you are needing lots of articulation ie; rockcrawling. or for inner fenders.

IMHO: Rim should be 2" narrower than tires (matches AlwaysFlOoReD +1" bulge) so for 295's that would be ~9.5" (10" is close enough).

Last time I was in Edmonton, streets weren't conducive to real wide tires (I was fixing sway bar link ends on daughter's '98 thanks to all the potholes..)

You're right about the potholes.

So you're suggestions would be I run 15x10 on the rear with a 295/50/15?

THANKS! It's got a 360 SBC, stock leafs, and I've always been partial to slapper bars.

If you're going to run 295/50R15s; then yes my vote is 15x10s.
