so i am doing some shopping around for wheels/tires. (almost done with the lift).. I plan on running 35x12.50 on 15 x I dont know yet. From all that i have read it seems that the most popular wheel width on this site and on 4x4's running 15inch wheels is 8inches. However, if you do your home work virtually every tire manufacturer says your wheels need to be 8.5 to 10 and up inches to run just about everything 12 inches wide and up. Is everybody just buying the wrong wheel or what? I understand that the tires will mount on an 8inch wide wheel but arent you just cutting yourself short? If your tire has a section width of 12.50 and you run 8inch wheels the true section width is gonna get cut down a little. why bother buying the wider tires if youre not gonna get all the rubber on the ground?

Is my logic wrong hear? I really just want to know if i should be looking at 15x8's or x10's
thanks
Liam

15x8's are easier on wheel bearings and will hold a tire bead better when aired down (major benefit for an offroader)

I run 15x8's with 3.75" backspacing with my 36x12.50 TSL SX's. Its perfect.

I run 15x8's with 3.65" backspacing with my 36x12.50 TSL SX's. Its perfect.

I just find it odd that right on th bfg site they say the mudterrain km2(which i plan on running) and all other tires in a 35 1250 15 for that matter need atleast an 8.5 wide and i just looked interco says youre supposed to run an 8.5 to 10 for your tires.. Going back to what i said about secton width getting cut down. your 1250's may really only be 1150 contact patch.. atleast until you air them down.

..lol.. i should stop bitching.. if you are running them no problem i would be safe doing the same.. I guess i just wanna be as informed as possible before i drop 1000 bucks on wheels and tires.

You don't see too many 8.5" wheels. The difference is only .25" on each side.

I undertand that. But running a 10 inch wide wheel when compared to an 8inch wide wheel is gonna provide you with alot more of the true width of your tire on the ground.

My swampers touch lug tip to lug tip on the road with 35psi in the front and 30 in the rear and wear perfectly.

Your wheel bearings will love you for it :icon_thumby:

This "8.5 inch" wheel thing is fairly recent (last 8 years or so). I don't know why it was changed (maybe some odd favor to the wheel industry to try to get people to buy more wheels when they swap tires? Wouldn't surprise me).

Before this 8-11" were the recommended wheel widths for 12.50 wide tires.

I've got 15x8s also and the tires are wearing perfectly fine.
