Well I finally picked up some 15" wheels for my ranger. I got a set of 2005 stock steelies with centers and lug nuts for $60. Now I can get some bigger tires, may even go with 30-9.50s and a 3" body lift. I think a little taller would be good and make many things more accessable on the underside. I am hoping te little 2.3 can handle it.

re-gear it to 4.10's and the 2.3 might not even notice the change. stock gearing if way high (like 3.08's) will make it doggy, cause the engine to have to work harder & use more fuel.

I say go with 31s if youre getting a 3" body lift. It'll help fill it out more. You'll need around 4.56 gears then though

you could run 31's with 4.10s easily, I ran 30's with 3.45's and it was fine

If you don't mind me speaking some truth here, here it goes.
With gas prices on the rise and probably as high as $4.50 a gallon why in the freaking world would you want to put 30s-33s on a 4 banger that would kill gas mileage and performance. That is just short sighted and clearly you haven't thought this through.
225 or 235/70/15s would be a better choice.
Just a horrible idea at this time.

I did the same thing but went to 235-75-15 with a 2.3, 5 speed and 3.73 rear. Little sluggish on hills (but then again, it was when I had the 14" tires too) but it rides so much nicer now!

Thanks for the input guys. My 7.5 rear has 3.45 gears so i hoped it could handle 30's. Im not completely decided yet. I may just go with 225s but I like a truck that sits higher than this one does currently. My truck is for the most part a pavement pounder. Im also not interested in making a payment on a 4x4 (I have a JK) or selling mine for one. I had many 4x4 and the older I got the less i used it. Fuel prices are going to rise I do know this but I have a short commute and dont do much other driving. I am thinking it shouldnt drop my mileage greatly but I could be wrong. If it did I would think regear would minimize it. I do really appreciate the input thanks again.

well if its stayin on the pavement I would stay close to the stock tire size

I ran the 235x75r15 on my 88 2.3.. I ran them for about 2 years.. never got it to go faster than sixty or better mpgs than 15 or 16 city.. I went back to the stock size and that bitch will do 80 again!

I would like to point out, in regards to the first reply, that the 2.3 never came with 3.08 gears. It'd be doggy with those and 14" tires (not wheels, tires).

i was just using that as a example, i had no idea what a 2.3 would come with, my '88 s/c had 3.73's, yeah a 2.3 with 3.08's would really be a bad setup.

Well if gas goes to $6 a gal. I may just put a sail in the bed.
