to prevent Found On the Road Dead, Fix Or Repair Daily
Is there supposed to be some sort of check valve at the end? TIA
 
No, but there is usually a plastic vent cap to prevent wasps, etc
from making a home in the line.

Nah, just a plastic push pin. They cost about $1.00.
