i know the 1354 cases have 6 planet gears and the 1350 cases have 4 gears. if i were to take a planetary set out of an electric 1354, could i drop it right into a manual 1350?

i know that the 1354 is stronger than the 1350, but exactly how much stronger is it? huge difference? or only a small one?

It's a small strength difference (and it's not so much because of the planetary gears, it's because the 1354 does not have an internal u-joint on the front output).

The 6-planet gearset I would imagine would fit in a 1350 though. The 1st couple years of 1354s also used the 1350 4-planet gearset. It's possible you might also need to swap the ring gears in the case, but not sure.

No, the ring gear is exactly the same,
but to swap in the 6-pinion planetary you also need to swap over the
sun gear/input, the "dog" that engages the planetary and the shift fork
as they are different as a set.

ok but just to clarify, the shift fork and dog are common to both the electric and manual cases but are unique to the 6 pinion planetary set and the 4 pinion planetary set.

so an electric 1354 would have all the parts needed to swap the 6 pinion planetary into the 1350 case. correct?

so its the internal u joint that is the weak link. didnt know that.

so do we know or have a guide to what years of trucks had which transfer cases?

Swapping the planetaries wont give you much strenght gain. The main strenght gain of a 1354 over the 1350 is that the 1354 does not have an internal u joint and a fixed front out put rather then a slip yoke.

Yes, the electric 13-54 from an explorer will have all that's needed to "upgrade"
a 4-pinion planetary to a 6-pinion.

But I've never seen either planetary "Broken"
