Looking to do a manual t-case swap on my 04 fx4. from what i can tell it looks to be for the most part a bolt in swap. found alot of information but nothing really tellimg me it will work on an 04. any 2 cents or information someone might have would be great! :icon_cheers:

It will be fine. The worst part is getting/making a floor plate and boot for the shifters to make it look finished.

Since you have an 04 you may be able to get one through the dealer if all else fails. I had to look far and wide and fabricate a few parts for mine.

There is also a possibility of a new front driveshaft, depending on what flange you have and what the manual t-case has.

If you get an early model 13-54 (pre-97) you will need a 95-96 Explorer front driveshaft. A later model 13-54 will be the stock driveshaft.

The boot/bezel can be from any Ranger or Explorer with a M5od/13-54 manual (IIRC 90 and later).

thanks for all the advice. i should have no issues with finding parts as there is a real great pick'n'pull junk yard that is full of rangers and explorers. im hoping to find a 97 with auto/manual t-case set up(these i was told can be "rare") in it so i can just get all my parts from one truck.

I'm always on the lookout for this setup for interior pieces. I have a case, shifter, and boot sitting in my shed from a 91 Explorer I scrapped a while back. It was a 5 speed though - so I need to get creative or find something that will work.

I think I have the auto manual boot and bezel somewhere.

Do you by chance still have the 5spd/ manual T case boot pieces? I have a auto/ manual tcase boot and I have a 5 speed truck. I also have the plate for the floor.

I bought an auto/manual floor plate from the dealership for $49. They had to order it through one of their dealer hook ups though.

I do still have it.

EDIT: I'll PM you, instead of doing the threadjack thing.

while we're on the topic (sorry for the thread jack) does anyone have the manual boot for my truck? (man trans) i don't know if it's level II specific or not... the one i have is just a black leather one, i seem to recall the rest having a rubber boot...

i don't even care what the boot looks like, i broke my plastic mounting ring, and i can only imagine it's several hundred for a new one from the dealership

damnit, how about the plastic ring at the bottom of the boot? is that the same deal?
