1350 vs 1354

I am in the process of SASing and V8 swapping my 89 BII. Putting in a 347 Stroker with a C5. I currently have a BW 1350 T case and a Behemoth Strongbox (finally got everything from Jacob). Since I am going to have to have drive shafts made for my setup, stretching my wheelbase, would there be any benefit of switching to a 1354 T Case? Is the 1354 stronger because of the fixed front? Thanks for any input.

AFAIK, that's the only exterior difference. Maybe someone who's had them apart can tell you more.

Yes, the 1997 and earlier 1354 has attached/fix yoke for front drive shaft, and the 1350 had removable yoke, but do not recall any issues with removable yoke failing

The 1993 and up 1354 used 6 pinion planetary gear set, the 1992 and earlier 1350 or 1354 used 4 pinion, but again don't recall any planetary gear failures, specific to 4 pinion models

So not sure a working 1350 would need to be changed to a 1354, it would be a sideways swap, not an "up" or "down" grade

With V8 power/torque, a 1356 would be an upgrade

The big perk is if you blow something on your front driveline, you can remove the driveshaft to limp in 2wd without it puking oil everywhere.

To counter that you can use factory linkages on for the 1350.

If you can track down a Hi Rider they did have 1350's with a fixed front output.

If the seals aren't damaged the 50 should not need shaft in it to keep oil

The 1350 should be fine for most purposes, I agree with everything Ron said. There are situations where it will not be ideal, for example if you have a lot of suspension travel in the front, you might want a longer slip yoke and with the 1350 you're stuck with what it has.

1354 manual t-cases are bomb diggity, kinda hard to find though. Try to get the shifter with it if you do go that route. Your shifter (assuming you have one and not an electric t-case) may or may not work.
