An M5OD from a 4.0L 4x4 will work.

Isn't the FM145 an inch shorter? Might mean swapping driveshafts too.

I just went over this with @Shran

I have an FM146 and he said it's a direct swap. Same length... bolts to engine and the 1350 manual transfer case in my 86 Bronco II.

I'll have to defer to him on the FM145...

What should I get the driveshaft off of like a extended cab or single cab or what

From the same cab style you have that has the M5OD transmission with 4x4

I am assuming you have an FM-145 right now. Transmissions from newer trucks (FM-146, M5OD) are longer so you will need a longer front driveshaft and a shorter rear one.

For a donor you need to find a truck with the same wheelbase as you have now, with the transmission that you want to use. You may have to do some yoke swapping on your transfer case and/or driveshaft rear most yoke on the shaft itself, not the axle, if you use a donor newer than '89. 89 and older had different and smaller yokes on both ends of the rear driveshaft and transfer case.

There are a few other differences as well with the slave cylinder, floor plate, shifters, etc
